Fleet Maintenance Garage

About

The Fleet Maintenance Garage maintains and repairs all the D.P.W.’s motorized fleet and equipment.

The garage maintains over 100 pieces of motor equipment, including over 30 pieces of fire department equipment and 40 Police Department vehicles. A repair and a preventative maintenance log is kept on each piece. Vehicles include; light and multi-purpose heavy duty trucks, pick-up trucks, construction equipment, front-end loaders and backhoes, street sweepers and various lawn-cutting grounds maintenance equipment.

Each year the shop passes a strict inspection conducted by the Department of Environmental Protection. The D.E.P. inspects 55 gallon drums placed on proper absorbent pads in case of leakage or spillage, proper storage of petroleum products, air quality in the shop, drains clear of debris, etc.

Mechanics who specialize in welding may be called upon for special projects being done in the City, that may require their expertise.

The Superintendent also oversees the detailed specifications for new equipment that is being purchased or leased.
