Housing Stability Notification Ordinance
Notice of Tenant Rights and Resources
The City of Medford adopted the Housing Stability Notification Ordinance (HSNO). The Ordinance seeks to promote housing stability to Medford residents and to ensure that the residents are aware of their basic housing rights and housing resources.
The Ordinance requires landlords to provide a document “Notice of Tenant Rights and Resources” to new tenants. This document should be provided at:
1) The start of any residential tenancy, regardless of the length of the tenancy, on or before the fifth day of the tenancy, and
2) The end of any residential tenancy, along with the service of a notice to quit or notice of lease non-renewal or expiration.
Landlords must also provide the Massachusetts “Notice to Quit Accompanying Form” to residential tenants when issuing a Notice to Quit for nonpayment of rent.
The Housing Stability Notification Ordinance was passed by the City Council on March 28, 2023, and is effective as of June 26, 2023.
