2022 State Primary Election Information

Mail-in Ballot

Any registered voter can request a mail-in ballot. Just complete an application (must be physically signed with a pen, stylus, mouse, or finger) and return it to the Registrars of Voters Office via post, hand delivery, email or fax. The Vote-by-Mail-Paper-Application is available as a PDF.  Apply as early as possible.

We will mail Ballot packs as soon as Ballots arrive at City Hall.

You can return the ballot by mail, bring it to City Hall during business hours, or drop it into the Mail Drop Box outside of City Hall (Clippership Drive) side entrance. Completed ballots CANNOT be returned to polling places on Election Day.

Early Voting

In person Early Voting will be offered prior to the September 6th Election, at City Hall. Dates and times are as follows:

• Saturday, August 27th, 9am – 5pm (last day to register to vote in Sept. 6th primary)
• Sunday, August 28th, 10:00am – 3:00pm
• Monday, August 29th, 8:30am – 4:30pm (last day to request mail ballot)
• Tuesday, August 30th, 8:30am – 4:30pm
• Wednesday, August 31st, 8:30am – 7:30pm
• Thursday, September 1st, 8:30am – 4:30pm
• Friday, September 2nd, 8:30am – 5:00pm

  Polling location change: Ward 4 Precinct 1 Tufts University 161 College Avenue front entrance has been CHANGED to the REAR entrance of the Gym! For those voters who have been Poll Voting on Election Day this is the Entrance we previously used! Directions: Off College Avenue turn right into the gym rear Parking lot the polling entrance is located at the rear of the building, on the left look for the VOTE HERE signs in the ground and on the entry door. There is plenty of parking and we will have signs posted to direct you.

In-Person (Election Day)

When will I receive my mail-in ballot?

• The City will mail ballots to any resident who has requested to vote by mail and has filed a signed application, as soon as we receive them. The U.S. Postal Service recommends allowing up to 7 days for ballot delivery, in each direction.

How can I return my mail-in ballot?

• By Mail: Drop ballots into any United States Postal Service mailbox.
• In Person: Deliver your ballot to City Hall during business hours.
• Via Drop Box: Securely drop your completed ballot into the white Mail Drop-Off Box at the side entrance to City Hall.

How do I find my polling location?

How is the City making sure people don’t vote twice?

• As with all elections, there are protocols in place for the Elections staff to verify voter information to avoid this issue. For mail-in ballots, it is essential that ballots be returned in the yellow envelopes that are provided with your ballot. This is your Affirmation that you are the Registered Voter who actually voted, this Affirmation must also be signed by you and your address must be filled in.

Is mail-in voting secure?

• Yes. Mail-in voting in Massachusetts takes the same steps to preserve election security as absentee voting, which has been in place for decades.
