Curbside Composting in Medford

The City of Medford has partnered with local company Garbage to Garden to offer a residential curbside compost collection service. Residents now have the option to contract directly with Garbage to Garden for curbside compost pickup, at a special rate for Medford residents.

Curbside composting is a way to recycle food scraps and compostable materials through a pickup service rather than at home. Composting has numerous benefits for air quality, clean water, and soil. Food scraps have the correct ratio of nutrients that plants need to grow. By composting your food scraps, including meat, dairy, and bones, you’re putting nutrients back into the soil instead of wasting them!

Garbage to Garden is now offering discounted curbside composting for Medford residents for just $99.99/year or $8.99/month. There is an initial, one-time bin fee of $20. After signing up, bins are delivered directly to your address on your regular trash day and compost pickup starts the following week.

For residents concerned about the sign-up costs, please contact Medford’s Office of Planning, Development, & Sustainability to learn about our free starter kits and discuss future alternative funding options. Starter kits include one large bin, a table-top bin, and a pack of compostable liners. The Office can be reached by emailing ocd@medford-ma.gov or calling 781-393-2480.
