Medford Opening Applications for Senior Work Off Real Estate Tax Abatement Program

Medford seniors, age 60 and up, can reduce real estate taxes by temporarily working for the City 

Program Info Session to be held on July 28 at 1 p.m. at Senior Center  

(MEDFORD) — The City of Medford Council on Aging and Office of the Assessor invites seniors, ages 60 and over, to apply for the Senior Work-Off Abatement Program. Through this program, seniors have the opportunity to lower their real estate tax payments by temporarily working for the City. Preference will be given to Seniors that have not participated in previous years. 

The work program will begin on September 8, 2026, and must be completed on or before February 12, 2027. 

Please be aware that there are only approximately 20 spots available for the program and certain positions will require specific skill sets. Senior veterans are strongly encouraged to apply. Only one applicant will be selected per household. Applicants must be owner-occupants.  

The Council on Aging and Assessor’s Office will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, July 28 at 1 p.m. at the Senior Center (101 Riverside Ave.) to share information and answer questions.  

All applications must be completed and returned to the Medford Senior Center by August 11, 2026 at 3pm.

Timeline of program: 

• July 28th at 1:00pm – Public meeting held at the senior center to disperse the packets and answer questions to interested individuals.  

• August 11th by 3:00 p.m.: completed packets must be returned to the senior center.  

• August 18th - 12 p.m.: pull lottery of the twenty individuals.  

• August 24-31: notify department heads and qualified individuals.  

• September 8th: workers may begin assignments.  

• February 12, 2027: all work must be completed.
