Medford to Officially be Designated as a Purple Heart City
The City of Medford will be designated as a Purple Heart City in a dedication ceremony on Wednesday, October 30 at 4:30pm at City Hall, announced Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn. The ceremony will honor local veterans, specifically Purple Heart awardees, for their sacrifice and bravery.
A Purple Heart City is given to municipalities that recognize Purple Heart military personnel, who were wounded or killed in combat. To qualify for the distinction, municipalities must have residents, either living or deceased, who have received this military award.
“There is a thriving and engaged veteran community in Medford and honoring them with this Purple Heart City distinction before Veteran’s Day is a fitting tribute to their service,” said Mayor Lungo-Koehn. “Please join us on October 30 for the dedication ceremony to thank those who have sacrificed so much for our country.”
The Mayor’s Office, Medford Office of Veterans’ Services, and Secretary of the Executive Office of Veterans Services Jon Santiago MD, MPH, will begin the ceremony at the Killed in Action memorial on the front lawn of Medford City Hall, 85 George P. Hassett Drive. A dessert reception will follow in the City Hall Howard Alden Memorial Chambers.
