Medford Seeking Applicants for Community Land Trust Working Group
Working group members are tasked with guiding the Community Land Trust study process and reviewing the consultant’s work
Application deadline is September 8
(MEDFORD) — The City of Medford is now accepting applications to join a working group that will guide the Community Land Trust feasibility study, announced Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn. This advisory group will help guide the study and eventually review the work done by the consultants related to a Community Land Trust.
Community Land Trust (CLT) is an independent, non-profit organization that acquires and holds land for the benefit of a community. In a CLT model, land is owned collectively by the community, while the homes on the land are owned by individual residents through long-term lease. This allows for affordable homeownership opportunities. The City is studying the feasibility of creating a CLT model in Medford.
The working group will meet monthly for the duration of the study, from September 2024 through June 2025. Along with guiding and reviewing the study, working group members will work with City staff to draft a mission statement, a financial analysis for CLT growth, and educational materials about CLT’s for the community. All meetings will be held virtually and there will be one in-person community open house to be held in the late winter.
The working group may potentially be comprised of policy officials, community leaders, members of housing advocacy groups, board members of the Affordable Housing Trust and Community Preservation Committee, representatives from Community Development Corporations, real estate agents, banking professionals, project managers, and interested residents. Individuals with the experience and background mentioned above are strongly encouraged to apply.
This working group is advisory, has no voting powers, and is not subject to open meeting law. The study, funded by a state grant, is being led by JM Goldson LLC.
If interested, please complete the CLT Study Working Group Interest Form by September 8, 2024. Physical copies are available at the Office of Planning, Development, and Sustainability, Room 308 at Medford City Hall, 85 George P. Hassett Drive.
