Medford Opens Applications for Business Education Program

The City has opened applications for ‘Community Business Builders’, a microenterprise education program, announced Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn. Funded by the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), the program is a series of classes aimed at helping entrepreneurs start and run a business in Medford.

In partnership with Roads Consulting Group, the program will run from March 2026 through May 2026. Participating entrepreneurs will attend a series of classes covering topics such as accounting, budgeting, financing, marketing, and sales.

By the end of the program, participants will have developed a business plan, prepared for presenting loan applications, and honed their elevator pitch. The program will introduce participants to business resources in Medford and Massachusetts. There will also be one-on-one guidance with Roads Consulting Group staff and peer-to-peer mentorship.

"By connecting entrepreneurs to education opportunities, resources, and a network of peers, the goal of this program is to support our diverse local economy,” said Mayor Lungo-Koehn. “We are always looking for ways to uplift our business districts and Community Business Builders is a direct investment to ensure our small businesses have the tools they need to thrive.”

The program cohort will be comprised of up to ten students who intend to open or currently operate a microenterprise. Participants in the program must be Medford residents who qualify as low-to-moderate income.

Applications will be open on a rolling basis until the program has reached capacity. The full program guidelines and application are available on the City website here.
