Mayor Removes ‘Interim’ Tag from Current Fire Chief’s Title

Todd Evans was officially sworn in as Medford Fire Department Chief on Monday, February 24 after achieving the highest score among two candidates in the Fire Chief assessment center examination process.

“Chief Evans has proven to be a decisive and thoughtful leader over these past 11 months, and I’m thrilled that he showed his expertise and experience in fire operations during this comprehensive assessment center process earning him the highest score.” Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn said. “The Fire Department is in good hands with him at the helm and I know he’s committed to ensuring that each member continues to serve the community with the highest level of accountability, integrity and professionalism.” 

Chief Evans joined the Medford Fire Department in 2001. He was promoted to Deputy Chief in 2021 and Interim Chief in March 2024. 

“It is a tremendous honor to know that I have earned the right to be named Fire Chief of the Medford Fire Department and I’m grateful that I’ll be able to continue to lead this group as we modernize our operations and facilities,” Chief Evans said. “Thank you to Mayor Lungo-Koehn, my colleagues in the administration and the fire department for their support and guidance as I went through the assessment center examination process.” 

The City will hold a public swearing-in ceremony for Chief Evans on March 12 at the Alden Memorial Chambers at 5 p.m. All are welcome!
