Comprehensive Plan Community Kick Off Meeting Scheduled for June 9th
Residents, landlords, business owners, and all members of the Medford community invited to participate in the official public launch of the Comprehensive Planning process.
The City of Medford and Medford’s Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee invite the Medford community to the formal Kickoff Meeting for the Comprehensive Planning process. The Kickoff Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 9, 2021 from 6 to 8pm. You can register in advance for this meeting at the link here or by visiting https://www.medfordma.org/mayors-office/comp-plan. For translation or other accommodations, please enter your request when registering or contact 781-393-2480 at least 2 days prior to the meeting. We currently plan to have Kreyòl ayisyen (Haitian Creole), Español (Spanish), and Português (Portuguese) translations available but will do our best to accommodate any other requests that come in
The first community workshop will be a fun and entertaining virtual community event that creates a digital venue for celebration and to introduce the planning process. The event will be structured around a presentation broken up into three sections to introduce the scope and purpose of the comprehensive plan, introduce the team, and present initial findings from early analysis. Between each short presentation there will be a 25-minute brainstorming and input session for community members to provide thoughts, ideas, and input to help us get the plan started in the right direction.
“Creating a guiding, sustainable plan for Medford’s future is only possible by including and incorporating input from all sectors of our community. This kickoff meeting will be one of the many ways that we will focus on getting input from everyone who lives and works in Medford, and I hope that we will see many of you at the meeting on June 9th to get this process officially started.” said Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn.
At the kickoff meeting, attendees can expect presentations from the consultant team, breakout groups to discuss Medford’s past and factors that attendees would want to see incorporated into the planning process, planning exercises, and more. Over the course of the approximately 18-month planning process, the City, Steering Committee, and consultant teams plan to provide many opportunities for community engagement, so if you are unable to attend the kickoff meeting you will have additional opportunities to make your voice heard. A link to a recording of the presentations will also be posted on the City and Medford Community Media websites for those who are unable to attend but would like to watch after the fact. You can submit comments or feedback at any time by emailing compplan@medford-ma.gov and stay tuned for more information on a soon-to-be-launched interactive engagement website.
“Especially as gathering restrictions are loosened beginning in June, we plan to provide increasing opportunities for in-person meetings and events, going into the Medford community where people live, work, and play, to gather input and feedback, and to meet residents and businesses in those environments that this plan will work to support and enhance,” said Alicia Hunt, Director of the Office of Planning, Development, and Sustainability. “Watch for our staff, consultants and interns from the Office of Planning, Development and Sustainability around the city this summer and stop by to talk about your thoughts!”

If you are interested in a role within the Plan, we hope that you will consider joining us as a Plan Guide! Plan Guides will help to raise awareness about the planning process and engagement opportunities. As a Plan Guide you would attend an orientation workshop and receive a toolkit and your role would be to help us spread the word in your community and facilitate input to the plan! To volunteer or nominate someone you know for a Plan Guide position, please send us an email at ocd@medford-ma.gov.
Medford city services are available to all residents, regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, age, language ability, economic situation, or immigration status.
