City to Transform Parking Lot Along Clippership Park into a Pop-up Park

City to Transform Parking Lot Along Clippership Park into a Pop-up Park

The City is transforming an area of the parking lot adjacent to Clippership Park along Clippership Drive into a temporary pop-up park to host community programming, Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn announced.

A ribbon cutting ceremony for the park is scheduled for October 9 at 4 p.m.

The pop-up park will feature programming like concerts and movie nights in partnership with Medford Recreation throughout the fall, spring, and summer seasons, weather permitting. There will also be tables, chairs, and games available when the space isn’t actively programmed. The City will additionally use the space to launch future waterfront project updates and outreach events.

“As we work to revitalize our waterfront spaces by the Mystic River, this pop-up is the first step toward the future of fully activated waterfront experience along a revitalized Clippership Park,” said Mayor Lungo-Koehn. “This space is made possible by our Office of Planning, Development and Sustainability, specifically our Economic Development team, and we hope to see everyone on October 9th.”

“We want to get everyone excited about the upcoming improvements to Clippership Park and the waterfront in general,” said Sal Di Stefano, Director of Economic Development. “The Mystic River is one of Medford’s great natural resources that we have the opportunity to celebrate by building community-oriented, accessible features.”

It is the hope that this project, in conjunction with the Department of Conservation and Recreation’s Clippership Connector project will help to revitalize Medford’s waterfront area, which will expand access to these spaces. The Clippership Connector, which is under construction, will create a path that connects over ten miles of contiguous greenways, and Clippership Park. Planning for the reimagined Clippership Park is underway and could include street and pathway improvements, new programming opportunities, public artwork, and accessibility improvements.
