The (IT) Information Technology Department (formerly Data Processing) is responsible for providing maintenance, research and development for all hardware and software technological efforts for all city departments. This includes mainframes, servers, PC’s, scanners, cameras, PDA’s, projectors and town-wide networks (wired and wireless) T1’s and DSL’s and Cable.
IT manages email, licenses and software
For the public, the IT department provides access to as much data as possible as permitted or required by the department that has jurisdiction over that data:
All relevant databases are managed, stored and maintained by IT operations staff and related IT personnel. The department has at its disposal 2.4 Terabytes of robotic library storage coupled to Industry leading backup automation software. Daily backups, disaster planning and 24-7 system restoration are elemental to all operations.
Desktop Systems Support:
The main goal of desktop support is to insure reliable access to computing services. Most administrative staff spends a significant portion of their day doing computing work, these resources are essential for city staff to perform their jobs effectively. Without reliable, robust systems and access to good technical support, we cannot efficiently accomplish the business of the city.
All network infrastructure; Firewalls, routers, switches are managed, maintained and centrally monitored in the IT operations center.
