About

The Medford Consumer Advisory Commission is one of a statewide network of Local Consumer Protection Programs established by the Massachusetts Office of the Attorney General to advise and assist in resolving consumer complaints.

Founded in 1977, the goal of our office is to empower consumers with knowledge of their rights and to educate them on ways to protect themselves from becoming a victim of a scam, fraud or identity theft. Our motto is “Education is the Best Prevention.”

We provide advice, education, referral and informal mediation services at no cost to consumers.

Mediation provides consumers and businesses the opportunity to address and resolve disputes.

In order to be successful, there must be a willingness to participate in the mediation process by both parties. Please keep in mind that our office is staffed by mediators and consumer specialists trained in complaint resolution and Consumer Rights. Our office is not staffed with Attorneys; therefore we cannot offer actual legal advice or representation. If we are unable to resolve your complaint through mediation or if your complaint does not fall under our jurisdiction, you may be advised, as a last resort, to take further legal action on your own. Unfortunately, we do not have judicial powers

All of our findings are then reported back to the Massachusetts Office of Attorney General in order to aid them in identifying patterns of unfair and deceptive practices across the State. In certain cases where a large segment of the population is affected, additional action may possibly be taken later by the AGO.

Through a Grant funded from the AGO we serve residents of Medford, Malden, and Everett.

Walk-ins are welcome during our business hours. It is always a smart idea to call first in order to avoid waiting as we sometimes have appointments scheduled.

Our staff will educate consumers of their rights in many consumer-related areas and we have an array of brochures readily available to help you. Call and we can send you a brochure or answer any questions you may have.

Following are some of the areas we can assist with:
– New and Used Car Sales and Lemon Laws
– Home Improvement
– Landlord/Tenant Rights
– Debt Collection
– Retail Rights
Credit Issues
– Identity Theft
– Mortgage Issues

…and more
