Mayor Stephanie M. Burke began her first term with a goal to develop a citywide recreation department to benefit residents of all ages. Mayor Burke appointed a group of individuals to the Recreation Focus Group and they were tasked with developing a survey, collaborating on ideas and initiatives, determining key aspects of a department and ultimately the positions that would make up the recreation department.
On January 2, 2018, Mayor Burke appointed Mr. Kevin Bailey as the Recreation Director for the City of Medford. Kevin brings extensive experience as a former Assistant Aquatics Director for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and prior to that, Kevin was the former Assistant Aquatics Director for the Town of Brookline.
“I am very enthusiastic and eager to begin enhancing the activities and services offered to Medford residents, said Kevin Bailey.”
As the Recreation Director, Kevin is responsible for developing, implementing and supervising a full scope of recreation services for the City of Medford. Developing annual and multi-year work plans and strategies and ensuring adequate recreation resources are available to achieve and sustain those work plans. Kevin will also assist in short and long-range planning for a comprehensive recreation program, propose long-range capital improvements and development of facilities and equipment.
“Launching a Recreation Department within the City of Medford is very exciting for the entire community. I am proud of the great work that the Recreation Focus Group completed and the recommendations they provided me with for moving forward,” said Mayor Stephanie M. Burke. “Bringing Kevin on board to begin our Recreation Department is a critical step in improving the opportunities and experiences that residents of all ages will have. I am thrilled to welcome him as part of our team and look forward to his collaboration with other programs and departments in the City.”
