September is Senior Center Month Come on down and Join Us!!!! We want to welcome you to stop by and see what the center has to offer. We will offer FREE exercise classes and programs to new participants during the week of September 18th-22nd. Coffee and Refreshments will be available. We will have Yoga, Zumba, Tai Chi, Strength and Balance, Lunch daily, Blood Pressure check, coffee hour with the Mayor and so much more.
TWIN RIVERS—$20.00 per person. Next date October 16th Bus will depart at 9:45am.
Foxwoods—$25.00 per person. Nov 13th Bus will depart at 7:45am.
Mohegan Sun—$25.00 per person. Next date Sept 11. Bus will depart at 7:45am.
Lowell Spinners baseball game—September 7th, Thursday—$15.00 per person, includes roundtrip motor coach bus departs at 9:30am, ticket to the game vs Vermont Lake Monsters, hot dog, beverage, ice cream, program and a whole lot of fun. Tickets available.
Newport Playhouse and Lobsterfest Luncheon—Monday, Sept 18th—$99.00 per person includes roundtrip motor coach departs at 9:00am, to Newport Playhouse & Cabaret enjoy a delicious lobster with all the fixins, after lunch sit back and take in the Playhouse “Self Help” a married couple cast themselves as self-help gurus. Their lives unravel in a farce as they try to conceal a body. Tickets available.
NH Turkey Train—Friday, October 13th—$69.00 per person bus departs at 8:00am includes a tour to the White Mountains of New Hampshire, enjoy the changing colors of the season, then board the scenic railroad dining car where you will be served a delicious full course luncheon from Hart’s Turkey Farm. Tickets available
Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts—Tuesday, Nov 7th—$49 per person includes motor coach departs at 9:00am for a tour of Boston Common, the State House and the Public Gardens. Then enjoy a delicious luncheon at Venezia Restaurant on Boston’s Waterfront, choice of entrée, and finally admission to the Museum of Fine Arts to view collections from Europe, Asia, The Americas and more. Christmas in the White Mountains– Nov 27 –29, 3 days 2 nights’ tour. Zumba/Fitness Classes Mondays and Wednesdays with Emily Brenner Zumba Gold ® Mondays at 10:00am takes the Zumba formula and modifies the moves and pacing to suit the needs of the active older member. Cost is $5.00 per class drop in.
Dance Fitness/Yoga Dance Wednesdays at 10:00am combines Yoga, dance, breath and energy with great music. This class brings tons of fun and healing to body, mind and spirit. Cost is $3 per class.
YOGA CLASSES WITH ROSA BROWN Mondays beginning September 11th. $3.00 per class Gentle Yoga ~ 12:45pm for those who want to seated, standing, and floor yoga poses. This is an amazing group of seniors who are willing to stretch in every way, and able to get down on the floor.
Chair Yoga ~ 2:00pm, seated and standing yoga poses that are adapted to the needs of the group. We stretch, strengthen, challenge our balance, and take time to relax.
LINE DANCING for fun and fitness with instructor Charlotte – Tuesdays, from 10:00am to 11:00am $3.00 per person, all levels of dance are welcome. Have fun learning some new moves
Strength & Balance —with Nancy K FREE WEDNESDAYS 1 hour class with our instructor Nancy. Focus on your strength and balance. Use of light weights, seated chair program for beginners as well, TIME 1:15pm to 2:15pm. Donations accepted. No class Sept 13th.
Tai Chi Chi Kung with Marie Favorito – is back for Fridays starting September 8th at 9:45am. Tai chi is an ancient Chinese tradition that, today, is practiced as a graceful form of exercise. It involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing. Drop In $5.00 per class.
KNIT & CROCHET FREE Tuesdays, 10:00am. Please join our instructors Dolores for Crochet and Jean for knitting in creating some beautiful handmade creations.
Art Open Studio– Thursdays 1:00pm—3:00pm FREE class will offer an artist the opportunity to join a talented group and the rule is BYOS (bring your own supplies)! Relaxing coloring therapy, acrylics, charcoals, whatever medium you choose that stimulates your creativity, along with wonderful conversation and idea exchange can be found in this class.
CERAMICS: with Rosemary Ardagna from Claydreams of Arlington. Classes are held on Fridays from 10am to 12noon. Cost is $5.00 per 2-hour class, (cost of pottery piece not included).
Holiday Singers– We will resume on Fridays September 8th at 2:00pm. Our group is open and Free to anyone who wants to sing, no audition necessary. On some dates singers, maybe off site performing.
Mitsy Project Quilting Class – Wednesdays at 1:00pm at the Medford Senior Center. FREE quilting class. All age groups are welcome in this inter-generational activity; only 15 participants can be accommodated with priority being given to blind or visually impaired registrants. Register by calling 781-396-6010. Thank you to the MCC/LCC for a partial grant making it possible to continue the Mitsy Kit Project through Medford COA.
Walking Club — Join Pam Kelly on Fridays at 9:30am for a brisk 45-minute walk. Walking boosts brain power, drives creativity, improves self-confidence, and reduces stress? Join us, give it a try!
Dancing on the Silver Screen—will resume September 7th at 10:00am—four week sessions-FREE, learn a few dance steps after watching a Golder ERA musical, example Singing in the Rain—learn a few steps like Fred Astaire and Debbie Reynolds. Dance Finale will be on Sept 28th. LCC/MCC grant class.
Parkinson’s Support Group – Learning How to live with Parkinson’s Disease The next meeting will be September 6th at 10:30am. Kim Arouth , RN from Greater Medford VNA will be leading the group. Low Vision Support Group Next meeting Friday, September 15th at 10:00. The Low Vision support group is sponsored by the Mass Association for the Blind and Visually impaired. The group is for individuals who are losing their vision and would like to learn from and listen to others.
SHINE Wednesdays in September from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, Ynes Hernandez will be available by appointment on Wednesdays to help you with all of your health insurance needs. Call 781-396-6010 for appointments.

CARE CAFÉ (Caregivers Assemble Relax and Enjoy) – will meet the first Wednesday of each month, September 6th, from 10am—12noon. Memory Café style environment with social interaction featuring the Mitsy Kit Project (a touch based sewing & quilting activity) for all participation levels. Senior Bullying—An Invisible Epidemic? – Thursday, Sept 14th at 11:00am— Does bullying exist among and against seniors in today’s society? Generally, the word “bullying” triggers images of schoolyard aggression. But bullying also happens among adults under many circumstances. My Life My Health, Chronic Pain Self-Management Workshop Series— Thursdays beginning October 5th—November 9th from 10am to 12:30pm at the Medford Senior Center. FREE Chronic pain self-management workshop series is designed for anyone who has been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, whiplash injuries, post-surgical pain, neuropathic pain, neuralgias, post stroke pain, diabetic neuropathy, chronic neck/shoulder/back pain or other types of ongoing pain.
FOOD PANTRY for Elders Thursday, September 14th at 2pm. Elders and adults with disabilities who are interested in taking part in the food pantry should visit the Medford Senior Center to fill out an application. Participants must register prior to visiting the food pantry and qualify based on income, disability, and age. Stop by the center or call 781-396-6010 for an application.
