The Board of Health recently voted to implement proposed changes to Medford’s tobacco regulations.
As of July 10, 2017 the proposed changes will become effective:
FLAVOR RESTRICTION – restricting the sale of flavored tobacco products to adult only stores (tobacconists/vape shops) where anyone entering has to be 21 or older.
CIGAR PRICING – minimum price $2.50 for single and two or more cigar packages minimum of $5.00.
SCHOOL ZONE – No new stores with tobacco sales within 500 feet of a school.
PERMIT CAP – restricts the number of tobacco permits allowed in the city.
Workplace restrictions and environmental smoke regulation updates also effective July 10, 2017:
PRIVATE CLUBS – Smoking prohibited in private clubs/membership associations. POSTPONED TILL JANUARY 10, 2018
RESTRICTION OF MUNICIPAL BUILDINGS – no smoking within 25 feet of any entrance.
