From the Desk of Mayor Stephanie M. Burke
To Everyone that calls Medford home:
Our city has grown and evolved into a diverse group of people from different ethnicities, faith traditions, orientations and viewpoints. We are an inclusive community where everyone should feel welcome and have the ability to further advance themselves and their families. What makes our city special: it is the perspectives that are brought to the table that truly define Medford today.
As we reflect, it is more important than ever to continue to stand together to move forward! We must continue to embrace our differences and understand that everyone’s uniqueness paints the picture of today and the future of tomorrow in our city.
Not just as your Mayor, but also as a daughter, wife, mother, and friend, I promise to continue to stand with you. This city was not built on hate, bigotry, or injustice and It pains me to know that there are legitimate concerns surfacing in our community and furthermore, in our country regarding intolerance. We must stand together to embrace our differences, to partner with all voices in the conversation, and collectively take action to better our community.
YOU are what makes this city special; YOU are what makes this city welcoming; YOU are what makes this city home. Together, WE ARE MEDFORD!
Following is the resolution that was submitted by Mayor Burke to the Medford City Council on November 29, 2016. It was supported unanimously. In addition, it will be on the School Committee agenda on December 5, 2016:View Fullscreen
