Complete Streets Policy
Public Meeting May 5, 2016
Room 201, Medford City Hall
The City of Medford is pleased to invite you to a public meeting to learn about our Complete Streets policy and how we plan to implement a Complete Streets program in Medford.
Complete Streets refers to roadways that are designed and operated for safe access for all users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists and public transportation users of all ages and abilities. In short, Complete Streets are for everyone.
Medford is participating in the State’s Complete Streets Funding Program, in which we will apply for funds to implement a number of Complete Streets projects in 2016/2017. An important early task toward this goal is to develop a Complete Streets Policy. The Policy’s intent is to outline a vision and a core commitment to users of all ages and abilities. It encourages best practices regarding design criteria and a network approach. It establishes performance standards with measurable outcomes and it indicates a process for implementation.
Medford recently entered into a Community Compact with the State and we selected Complete Streets as a Best Practice. This elevates our commitment to enhancing the safety, health, economic vitality and quality of life in our community by – to the maximum extent practical – improving the pedestrian and vehicular environment so that more accessible and efficient connections between home, school, work, recreation and retail destinations can be made.
We are excited about this program and look forward to sharing with you our goal of an improved transportation experience for our residents and visitors.
