Comcast Introduces EveryBlock in Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, and Medford, Bringing Local News and Information to Users at the Neighborhood Level
Medford Mayor Michael J. McGlynn and Comcast today announced the launch of EveryBlock, a hyper-local free online service and mobile app that aggregates content at the neighborhood level. Now available in Medford, Boston, Brookline, and Cambridge, EveryBlock is an interactive, personalized news feed that allows users to stay connected with neighbors, interact and share what’s happening on their block, and discover content and information.
Mayor McGlynn has championed previous efforts such as MadeinMedford.com, which will now feature local events and other content powered by the EveryBlock platform to expand the reach of existing partners to a wider user base.
“Thanks to Comcast for providing its visionary leadership in enabling local residents to better connect with their neighborhoods and nonprofits that matter most,” said Mayor McGlynn. “I’m proud that Medford residents are among the first to benefit from this innovative service in the Commonwealth. I look forward to watching EveryBlock continue to grow and offer meaningful ways for residents to interact with the City.”
“Comcast is committed to bringing technology and information together to improve and strengthen our community,” said Tim Murnane, Vice President of External Affairs for Comcast’s Greater Boston Region. “We are thrilled to bring this exciting community resource to Medford, Boston, Brookline, and Cambridge to help residents, community-based organizations and elected officials communicate and share information.”
EveryBlock users can choose to receive personalized information from more than 500 local sources, including news, reviews, events, blogs and other web content, civic data- like business license applications and city service- as well as user-generated questions and comments. Up-to-the-minute information gets delivered based on users’ custom location preferences where they can choose the content they want and see it by neighborhood or zip code, follow the blocks they live and work on, or even create a custom location. Furthermore, any local blogger, publisher, or other organization interested in content from EveryBlock can utilize syndication tools at EveryBlock WidgetControl or a more custom integration based on the EveryBlock API.
Currently, EveryBlock also operates in Chicago, Denver, and Philadelphia. Comcast plans to roll out the platform to additional markets, including Houston, TX and Hialeah, FL in the coming months.
